CILIP in Kent’s Communication Officer Philippa is part of a team organising the first Library Camp South East unconference! It’s open to anyone interested in libraries, librarianship, or information management, and it’s completely free! Book a place here.
What is an unconference? An unconference is like a conference but better! It is a participant-driven, powerpoint-free zone where people can gather to share their ideas about libraries. You don’t have to be a librarian or even work in a library, you just need to be passionate about libraries and willing to share your experiences. At a Library Camp the participants lead the agenda – in fact, there isn’t an agenda until people make suggestions for what they’d like to talk about.
What happens on the day? The first order of the day will be pitching sessions. Anyone who wants to initiate a discussion on a topic can claim a time and space. Once all the sessions have been pitched they will be timetabled, with 3 or 4 running concurrently. Then it begins! At an unconference everyone follows the principles of Open Space events – people can wander in and out of sessions, tweet, blog and take photos all day.
Want to pitch a session? Add your pitch to the wiki session pitches page.
How do I get there? Library Camp South East will be held at the University of Kent, Canterbury Campus in the Grimond Building. You will find an interactive map and virtual tour here.
