Making Sense of Copyright – 05.11.2014

Copyright is now an unavoidable and important aspect of the life of information professionals in all sectors. It is an area of the law which is often misunderstood, and although straightforward in principle, in practice it can become complex which can lead to individuals and organisations finding themselves on the wrong side of the law.

Chris Morrison led a half day workshop at the University of Kent on Wednesday 5 November. The workshop bought participants up to date on developments in copyright, especially following the recent changes to UK copyright exceptions for education, research and non-commercial activity. It observed how copyright impacts on the work of librarians, archivists and information professionals, helping participants navigate their way through copyright law, make informed decisions on the best way to address copyright concerns and advise them on where to find further advice.
